Job Description: The Climate and Sustainability Programme at ODI is working to build a more equitable world, underpinned by climate-compatible development and sustainable stewardship of natural resources. We use robust data to influence governance, policy and investment in ways that reduce poverty, inequality and environmental degradation. We support governments, communities and industries to secure just and sustainable transitions, drawing on our renowned expertise in energy, cities, agriculture, land, water, and the connections between them. About the role We are now recruiting a Senior Research Fellow specialising in financing climate action to help lead and coordinate our broad portfolio of work in this space. The Senior Research Fellow will be responsible for developing, fundraising for, conducting and managing high-quality, innovative projects; providing policy advice to senior decision-makers; and participate in public affairs in line with the Institute’s overall strategy (which includes a dedicated pillar on tackling the climate, environment and biodiversity crisis). Our Senior Research Fellows typically have several years of experience in external leadership positions (within government, private firms, civil society or the multilateral system) and a substantial body of research, advisory work and public affairs to their name. They are viewed as an authority and thought leader in their field.
Requirements: A degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline Extensive and deep knowledge of key issues and organisations relating to the financing of climate action Fluency in English Experience Experience in policy-oriented research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports Experience in policy advice and technical assistance, demonstrated by a track record of effective engagement with government agencies and/or multilateral institutions Experience in managing staff and consultants to contribute to a thriving, high-performing team. Skills/Abilities Strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly, and excellent organisational and oral communication skills A demonstrated capacity for policy advisory or public-affairs work, based on an analytical approach, and an innovative and creative communications ability. Project management skills Ability to translate research ideas into fundable projects Excellent communication abilities in relation to a wide variety of audiences Skills in negotiation, listening, communication of ideas, problem solving, decision making Ability to work as part of a team Time management skills, including managing a complex and varied workload Desirable Fluency in a language other than English Experience of working in international organizations or government agencies A history of engagement in major policy processes such as UNFCCC climate change negotiations and/or national environmental legislation Regular contribution to academic journals, including in an editorial capacity Active membership of professional associations and networks
