Dear Editor

How right you are in your observations, over the years when I was employed by organisations, the people who had the most respect and influence on their colleagues and the workforce generally were those who were prepared to work WITH us to the point where they would 'roll up their sleeves and work with us to ensure deadlines were met' - they also had both the empathy and understanding of those less capable, but equally hardworking, than others on the team. They had the vision, ambition and determination to ensure not only their own success but that of the company and everyone within it. They were usually the first to arrive and the last to leave each and every day - they were direct and honest in their approach to everyone - and did not suffer fools gladly from the Boardroom downwards. That is what we all appreciated and accepted them as not only 'leaders' but supportive and very capable colleagues, who had worked, and were working, hard to maintain standards throughout the workplace.
