To 5 April - The Harder They Come, Barbican, LondonAn exhilarating production based on the groundbreaking film of the same name, which starred Jimmy Cliff and launched reggae onto a world stage. Young singer Ivan Martin heads to Kingston with dreams of becoming a reggae star, but the harsh reality of the Jamaican music scene drives him into a fast and furious life as an outlaw.
Filmed over three years, We Are Together tells the remarkable and moving story of a group of AIDS orphans from South Africa who use the power of song to overcome hardship and loss. With unforgettable characters, soaring music and a plot full of surprises, We Are Together has been wowing audiences at film festivals around the world, winning an impressive 13 international awards last year, including Audience Awards at both Tribeca and Edinburgh! We Are Together is the debut film from Rise Films co-founders Teddy Leifer and Paul Taylor. Through the Rise Foundation, a registered charity, the two have pledged to donate all proceeds from the film and accompanying soundtrack to support the Agape orphanage featured in the film and other AIDS related charities in South Africa. New York-based Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar presents six works born of his enduring interest in Africa. Jaar has exhibited extensively internationally, featuring most recently at the 2007 Venice Biennale, and is represented in the permanent collections of major institutions around the world including MOMA and Tate Modern, but this will be the first opportunity in fifteen years to see a significant body of his work in London. www.southlondongallery.org

12 April – Expressions Fundraising Event for Stand Up for Africa, LondonJoin us at our Expressions fundraising event in London for an entrancing evening of live music, African dancing and drumming, spoken word, competitions and more. Our host is Tope Chiedozie, and performers include UK soul sensation Marsha Garrick, master drummer Henri Gaobi, poet Pheonia and actor Natasha Magigi.
