Why West Africa?

The mining industry, as one of the high potential areas of the West African economy, is a major driver of economic growth and long-term sustainability of supporting industries. West Africa’s mining sector although at early development stages is set to grow rapidly as investment pours into the region’s significant mineral wealth.

It has been reported that much of this growth will be focused on the regions untapped gold and iron ore reserves. Sierra Leone and Guinea are envisaged to show the fastest growth in iron ore production over the coming years and exporting by 2016. Gold production in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Burkina Faso continue to attract investment.

The West African mining landscape presents a series of challenges for both international players entering and operating in the region and local mining operators.
