Job Description: Liverpool Biennial is the UK’s leading festival of contemporary art. Taking over historic sites, galleries and unexpected public spaces, the Biennial has been transforming the city through art for over two decades. In addition to presenting a biannual free city-wide event, the Biennial is underpinned by a year-round programme of research, education, residencies and commissions. Liverpool Biennial is supported by Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council, the organisation is also registered charity. We are looking to appoint a number of new Trustees to help Liverpool Biennial achieve its ambitious plans for the future, providing foresight and challenge to our purpose and ideology. Trustees will aim to ensure best practice across the organisation’s activities, promote diversity and aid in raising our profile nationally and internationally in readiness for future biennial editions. Selected applicants will also be expected to engage with our 11th edition, The Stomach and the Port, which runs March – June 2021. Our resolve is that Liverpool Biennial should represent today’s society, therefore we are keen to hear from a diverse spectrum of people; especially those who are currently underrepresented on boards of charitable and arts organisations including women, Black, Asian, ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+, individuals living with disabilities as well as young people aged 18-25. We welcome all applicants who are willing to commit their time, energy, and experience to provide strategic support to the organisation. Furthermore, we are particularly interested in people who would bring an understanding of one or more of the following fields: Digital expertise including web development, delivery and digital marketing Providing artist’s perspective Developing people, and the organisation, and growing our diversity Sustainability and environmental concerns Ensuring our relevance to local educational and residential communities Professional services including law, HR, data analysis and GDPR compliance Funding landscapes, philanthropy, and the complex balance between private and public sectors
Requirements: Ideally you will be: Passionate about charities and the difference they make to the broadest of audiences; Enthusiastic about the arts, and the power of creativity to transform lives; Brave, with a sense of adventure to help us to deliver future biennials If you do not have expertise in any of these particular areas but feel that you have something exciting to offer the Liverpool Biennial please do apply. We’d love to hear from you. Please note that this is a voluntary role. Travel and other agreed expenses will be reimbursed, and the time commitment is roughly one half-day per month. Board Meetings are held in Liverpool and take place four times a year. As a Board Member, there will be additional promotional events to which you will be invited that may require travel.
