Job Summary: Monitoring and assessment of developments in the global economy on Commonwealth countries.
Job Description: Responsible for taking forward the Section’s work in collaboration with the Head of Section on debt issues, and issues related to financing for development, the post holder has a role in the monitoring and assessment of developments in the global economy on Commonwealth countries and contributing to G20 policy development work of the section and Finance Ministers Meetings. The post-holder will be required to have a mix of skills including knowledge of the complex international economic issues of current interest and a willingness to learn new skills. With at least seven years of experience in economic analysis and policy formulation and financing for development at a senior level in a government, international financial institution or research organisation (including NGO), you will also have extensive experience of working in (or on) developing countries. You will be responsible for taking forward the Secretariat’s technical, advocacy and policy work on debt sustainability; developing and implementing the Commonwealth Secretariat’s approach and policy work on development finance; writing briefs/reports/blogs, as necessary, on developments in the world economy, and on general economic and development policies pertinent to Commonwealth member states; contributing technical and other support to assist with delivery of the annual Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting, the Small States Biennial and the Commonwealth-La Francophonie G20 dialogues; and collaborating across Directorates to deliver cross-cutting work on issues with relevance to the Economic Policy and Small States Section, including climate change.
Requirements: To be considered, you will need to have a post-Graduate degree in Economics, with sound quantitative, analytical and writing skills, or a relevant Post-Graduate degree with strong technical Economic components, and proof of sound quantitative, analytical and writing skills. Also, you must be able to operate effectively in our multi-cultural setting and be a national of a Commonwealth country.
