Image

As enterprise education begins to evolve in Africa, there is the need for academics, industry and researchers with interest in Africa to have common understanding of practice, a unified agenda of embedding enterprise education within and outside the curriculum.

The purpose of this conference is to bring Africa’s capabilities and needs to the attention of the world’s organization and enterprise scholars, and at the same time to provide an opportunity for interested colleagues to collaborate and work on the many interesting problems presented in Africa. Home to more than 50 countries and one billion people, Africa offers some of the world’s most vibrant economies while continuing to face profound challenges. Marked by fast growth, limited growth, or no growth at all, Africa’s business, government, civil sectors and education all need the very best entrepreneurship and enterprise.

AEEC 2013 will be the 1st  Annual Africa International Conference on Enterprise Education entitled “Exploring Enterprise Education in Africa”, which is scheduled to take place at the Lagos Business School, Lagos, Nigeria from 15 – 17 January 2013. The conference will bring together enterprise educators within the continent and international educators working with the continent to share and learn best practices from each other.

31 January - Land Reform in Zimbabwe Revisited: A Qualified Success? Chatham House, London
Image

Participants

Joseph Hanlon, Visiting Senior Fellow, London School of Economics
Jeanette Manjengwa, Deputy Director, Environmental Studies Institute, University of Zimbabwe
Teresa Smart, Visiting Fellow, Institute of Education
Discussant: Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP, Foreign Secretary, UK (1995–97)

In 2000 Zimbabwe captured headlines around the world when 170,000 black farmers occupied 4,000 white farms. A new book, Zimbabwe Takes Back its Land (Kumarian Press) claims that despite political violence and hyperinflation, the new farmers are doing relatively well, improving their lives and becoming increasingly productive, especially since the US dollar became the local currency. While not minimizing the depredations of the Mugabe government, and accepting that many of President Mugabe's supporters benefited from the ruler's largesse, the book counters the dominant media narratives of oppression and economic stagnation in Zimbabwe.

The speakers, the authors of the book, will argue that the outcome raises important questions for the upcoming elections, and also presents new issues for the international community to consider.

For more information please contact Tighisti Amare. Entry to these expert meetings is restricted. Experts and interested individuals should follow the links above and apply online for registration.
