6-8 October – 16th Kenya International Trade Exhibition, KICC, Nairobi, Kenya

ImageThe 16th KITE – Kenya International Trade Exhibition, a multi- sector trade event to be held in October 2012 is all set to present over 10,000 products, equipment and machinery from over 30 countries.

The number of exhibitors and visitors in 2012 is expected to rise by at least 20% since an aggressive campaign has been launched while celebrating the event's 16th birthday. Trade visitors from all over East & Central African countries are being invited directly and in collaboration with several regional trade bodies in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, Mozambique & Zaire.

Though Kenya by itself is one of the biggest markets in Africa, major emphasis is being laid upon attracting traders and importers from neighbouring countries. The experience and comments of exhibitors at previous events indicate substantial gains from unexpected foreign visitors and we strongly feel that a rise in such statistics would ensure business especially for the foreign participants who form almost 80 – 85% of the exhibition. This is a great platform to meet importers in Africa and to build B2B relations. Trade visitors have a great opportunity to meet exporters from over 30 countries.

8-11 October - Human Capital and Talent Management in Oil and Gas, Istanbul, Turkey
Image

While the global economic slowdown may have had an effect on the War for Talent, the issue is still critical to the Oil and Gas sector in Turkey, CIS, and MENA regions due to competitive market for talent and lack of skilled candidates and employees in the sector. Combined with the problem of an aging workforce in Oil and Gas organisations globally, the historic lack of investment in skills and problems with attracting the best and the brightest into the sector is a major issue for organisations that must begin to be addressed now.

This 4 day workshop is designed to help you to address these issues by exploring both the Human Capital and Talent Management Strategies required in the context of Oil and Gas organisations' Business Strategy in Turkey, CIS, and MENA regions and most importantly help you to develop a practical action plan for the development and implementation of a Human Capital and Talent Management Program for your organisation. The workshop will have a practical rather than theoretical base as extensive use will be made of research and case studies to illustrate practical examples of the development and implementation of Talent Management programs. It will highlight how these best practices can be modified and applied to the specific context of the participants' organisations in the context of Oil and Gas.

To 4 November 2012 – Journeys and Kinship, Museum of London, London

ImageIs the face not currency enough? This display of face casts responds to the irony that members of the African Diaspora must pay to visit sites from which their ancestors were transported into enslavement.

Journeys and Kinship explores further the themes of the London, Sugar & Slavery gallery at the Museum of London Docklands through a project between the visual artist Jean Joseph and a group of young Londoners working together with Caribbean Calypso musician, Alexander D Great, and Yvonne Wilson from Equi-Vison.

The display features Joseph's work Sale Over Centuries, 2010 which consists of plaster face casts of 42 people from the African Diaspora who were born in and/or currently live in London. The casts promote discussion on the structure of faces and show how resemblances carry across generations and geographies.

In response to Joseph's work the young Londoners explored issues of enslavement, London's involvement and the African Diaspora. They then created a display which includes their own face casts and original music alongside film and photography documenting the project. This thought-provoking display raises issues around enslavement and life in modern London which remain relevant in today's capital.

Journeys and Kinship is open from 24 February – 4 November 2012 and is free entry.
