Peacekeeping operations currently are more complex and more multidimensional than in the past, and violence against peacekeepers is an increasing occurrence while bearing in mind the ever – changing complexities on the ground. The demands placed on peacekeeping personnel requires innovation to ensure successful missions in the most efficient and effective manner.
From 28-29 July these issues will be the focus of the 1st Annual Peacekeeping Africa Conference to be held in South Africa. The event will include a 90-minute workshop by Andre Juan Roux, Defence, Intelligence and Peacekeeping Expert which will address ‘Challenges and Advantages of Evolving Models of Peace Operations Mission Support (Logistics) in Africa, as well as the protection of civilians (POC), sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) and children in Armed Conflict.
The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Martin Kobler who serves as the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) effective 1 October 2011.
