Image

The importance of diaspora contributions to development, especially in terms of remittances, is increasingly recognised by policymakers. However, focus has traditionally been placed on the value and social impact of remittances, without necessary consideration of the interconnections between remittances, migration and development.

At this event, which will mark African Diaspora Development Day (AD3), experts and stakeholders will explore the links between remittances and development, and the impact which international policies on migration and development have on diaspora communities, with particular focus on the UN High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (UNHLDIMD).

The event will also mark the launch of a new AFFORD advocacy handbook, designed specifically for diaspora groups.

The event will be followed by an open reception.

6 July – 2 Jack Klaff Shows, Festival of Solo Theatre, London

ImageOut to Lunch

A satire about eating and charity by an award-winning storyteller. In the belly of a vast, empty space, with his usual ‘sharp observations’, ‘lightning-fast character changes’ (FT) and ‘touching, hilarious tale-telling approach’ (TLS), Jack tells of salvaged books, travels in the Third World and his friendship with Kevin Carter, who took that prize-winning photograph of a vulture waiting for an emaciated child to die.

Newton

Sir Isaac. Towering genius. Solitary but well-connected. Rational but mystical. Cruel but loved. A sparky, surprising array of characters, battles and triumphs presented with wit and insight and tremendous versatility by Klaff, science buff and ‘master storyteller’.

Written and performed by Jack Klaff

29-30 July – Advanced Telecoms Pricing Masterclass, Johannesburg, South Africa

ImageDeveloping Accurate Metrics to Gauge the Success Of Your Pricing Strategies

The impact of pricing on an organization’s revenue is often grossly underestimated. Did you know that many telecommunications companies could boost their profits by up to 30% with a mere 2% revenue increase?

Raising profits by increasing prices across the board, however, is hardly possible in a heavily competitive sector such as the telecommunications industry – and is also seldom recommendable. In fact, hardly any other industry has experienced such strong price decreases and eroding margins as the telecommunications industry: Increasing competition, declining ARPUs, new entrants with OTT products challenging traditional income from voice and SMS, and rapidly growing data traffic are only a few challenges telecommunications companies are currently facing.

In this 2-day masterclass, delegates will learn how to manage prices in the telecommunications business - understand the power of pricing and how smart pricing is the key lever to profitable revenue growth. This proven approach comprises of systematic pricing metholodies, global best-in-class benchmarks from telcos as well as other industries and case studies, which the trainers will review together with the delegates during the sessions.

August 2013

1 August – Africa Risk Conference, South Africa

ImageThe African market is a highly fragmented and complex political economy with poor intra-regional enabling infrastructure, weak capital markets and often informal trading links. Public sector institutions are often weak and the risk of political and social instability is a threat to sustainable business activity.

Despite these challenges, Africa presents attractive commercial opportunities. Drawn by the continent's promising prospects for economic growth and its abundant resources, global companies are entering and expanding their business footprints in Africa. The relatively high financial returns in Africa are a reflection of the perceived high risk of doing business on the continent.

Frontier Advisory, in partnership with Deloitte, will be hosting the one-day Africa Risk Conference (ARC). The conference will address the following headlines that business needs to consider when doing business and succeeding in Africa:

 1. How do we manage Financial & Investment Risk in Africa?

2. How do we mitigate against Geo-Political and Conflict Risk on the Continent?

3. How vulnerable is Africa to External Macro-Economic Forces & Shocks?

4. How do we manage Environmental Risk in Africa with respect to Food Security, Climate Change, Natural Disasters and Water Security?
