My daughter definitely considers herself an African.  Though born and bred here she has very strong roots in Ghana.  I try to take her home every other year as I believe strongly in seeing a place for yourself. She loves everything about Ghana and does not get bothered by the inconveniences.  She prefers African food, loves wearing traditional clothes and when asked where she is from she will reply Ghana.  She speaks and understands twi better than her cousins who live in Ghana.  At the moment her prayer is for us to move back home permanently.

My sons also consider themselves African. In response to a direct question "Do you see yourself as English or Ghanaian?", my younger son said "Ghanaian, because of you".
Which, in a quiet way, pleased me.

My children, nephews and nieces also consider themselves as Ghanaian for which I must say makes me very proud.

Even if they do, what will their children feel?  If they never plan to return home, are they really going to see themselves as African or British?
