The Global African Investment Summit is an annual event connecting global investors with African public and private bankable project owners seeking financing and advisory solutions.

After last year’s successful inaugural edition, the Global African Investment Summit (TGAIS) will once again bring over750 global investors, project developers and senior government leaders together to harness trade and investment opportunities in Africa.

H.E. Paul Kagame, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, H.E. Peter Mutharika, and H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Presidents of Rwanda, Ghana, Uganda, Malawi and Liberia respectively, alongside the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E. Augustin Matata Ponyo, will meet global business leaders at Central Hall Westminster to present various investment opportunities in their regions. Former Nigerian president, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, will also take part in this year’s event both as chairman and as a speaker.

The Summit attracts over 750 qualified project owners and global investors, including Family Offices, SWFs, International DFIs, Investment Banks, High Net Worth Individuals and Pension Funds. Investors at the 2014 Summit represented $US235 billion in managed funds.

“Africa is one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing regions,” said Paul Sinclair, Director of TGAIS. “This summit actively encourages trade and investment by giving African governments, business leaders and visionaries the opportunity to present their projects and set up partnerships. We are a game changer.”

Unlike most conferences focused on Africa, TGAIS moves beyond the conventional discussion on the need for change in Africa. Instead, the event provides a business platform, offering African governments and companies the chance to present their investment projects to a diverse audience of global businesses interested in long-term investment in Africa.

Programme Agenda

This year’s prestigious Summit features a two-day programme covering growth sectors including Power, Infrastructure, Agribusiness and ICT, alongside interactive project roundtables (showcasing over 70 bankable African projects seeking investment) and successful investment case studies. More than 50 high-level speakers are confirmed to attend.

Speakers

Over 50 high-level speakers are confirmed to speak across two days of presentations and panel debates. This year’s featured speakers include senior representatives from African Development Bank, Africa Finance Corporation, Diageo, Baker & McKenzie, Ecobank, Morgan Lewis, Globeleq, Genesis Electricity, Invest Africa and many more.

Programme Topics

This year’s two-day TGAIS programme will be addressing the theme of ‘Transforming African Economies for Global Competitiveness.’ The Programme will cover the most important topics relating to driving foreign direct investment into Africa, with a focus on Corporate Africa, Powering Africa, Capital Markets, Agribusiness, and Infrastructure. Sessions include:

  • Corporate Africa: The role of the African private sector in powering the transformation of the continent
  • Powering Africa: Overcoming energy poverty in Africa – financing options and investments with a cross-sector impact
  • Institutional Investor Perspective: The role of institutional investors in sustainable African development
  • Capital Markets: Attracting investment – deepening Africa’s capital markets
  • Agribusiness: Investing in an effective value chain – how to catalyse agribusiness investments in Africa to support the development of the continent
  • Infrastructure: Investment trends in African infrastructure

New for 2015

The African Entrepreneurship Programme is a new initiative of the Global African Investment Summit, to support African entrepreneurs and young African businesses seeking expansion capital to realize their investment objectives by giving them the opportunity to present and connect with financial stakeholders. The Programme is supported by His Royal Highness, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, Mr Aliko Dangote (Africa’s most successful entrepreneur) and former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Interactive Project Roundtables – Transact on bankable projects across Africa

During Project Roundtable Meetings, real investment opportunities are presented and business relationships are further developed. An audit of the businesses in attendance in 2014 accounted for control of US$235 billion in managed funds. Another key differentiator at this year’s event will be the introduction of a new case study stream, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to present successful stories in Africa.

At the heart of the Summit, Interactive Project Roundtables will present over 100 public and private sector bankable project owners from 18 African countries, seeking finance and advisory solutions.

Confirmed project owners include:

  • Bugasera Highway (Rwanda)
  • Eldoret Oil Pipeline (Uganda-Rwanda)
  • Kigali Railway (Nairobi)
  • Ogaal Telecom (Republic of Somalia)
  • 3,000 affordable homes (Republic of Chad)
