Banking Executive

I was educated at....

…. at the University of Leicester (England, UK); Zambia Insurance College Trust (Lusaka, Zambia); and the Copperbelt University (Kitwe, Zambia).

My first job was....

……on the graduate Development Programme at Finance Bank Zambia Limited, the largest indigenous bank in the country.

What I do now is....

….. manage the Back Office operations in the Banking, Currency and Payment Systems Department at the Regional Office of the Zambian Central Bank.

Edward Kapili is a banker with the Central Bank of Zambia, a role he has held since May 2012. He heads the Back Office Banking team providing Banking services to corporate customers, who include Ministries, Provisional Administrations, Government Agencies, Quasi-Government Departments and Commercial Banks among others.

Edward started his post-university career as an Intern in a FTSE 100 company, Standard Chartered Bank, where he gained extensive experience in a Cash and Front Office banking roles. He later worked on the graduate management development programme at Finance Bank, the largest indigenous commercial bank in Zambia. Before moving to his current role as a Manager at the Regional Office of the Central Bank of Zambia, he had previously risen through the ranks in tax administration at Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), from trainee tax inspector level to a manager.

Edward is a member of the Pan African Network of Emerging Leaders (PANeL) and works with Members of Parliament and Counsellors in community development work. In his spare time, Edward contributes to the community as a mentor through the Alchemy Women in Leadership programme.

He is professionally trained with an MBA, Finance (UK) with Distinction; a Bachelor of Business Administration degree; and, professional certifications in General Banking and in Investments and Securities.

He is currently working on his application on the Fulbright Programme to pursue the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship in Banking and Finance, which if successful will enhance his leadership, technical and soft skills, and provide exposure in the advanced US banking and financial Services system.

What I learned along the way is…

….. Humility, love, integrity, hard work, respect for others regardless of social status, need for soft skills and technical knowledge, and focus.

The greatest influence on my life has been……

… my family and, particularly, my parents who inspired in me an interest in education at an early age; my professional mentors-Professor Kenneth Mwenda and Mr. Chisha Mwanakatwe; my University Professors too numerous to mention and my Christian religious beliefs.

The best advice I ever received is…

…. study hard and gain the necessary qualifications, have a good attitude, work hard, take calculated risks and God will never let you down.

My top tips for succeeding in my career area are…

…. understand exactly what you want and what matters most to you; …inspire others to follow and support your endeavours and visions; nature empowered relationships.
