Fitness coach and wellness expert ‘Coach Cass' Nuamah shares some tips on how to make those much needed lifestyle changes
Fitness coach and wellness expert ‘Coach Cass’ Nuamah shares some tips on how to make those much needed lifestyle changes

Do you ever ask yourself ‘Now, how in the world am I supposed to get to xxx from where I currently am?’

Whether it's your career, your weight, your health or your dreams in general, there are a few things that need to be done in order to arrive at your goal successfully. Here are a few tips that will help you on your journey.

    • Identify your goal:First of all, where is your destination?!! What is your end goal/purpose? You can't just get in the car and endlessly drive. You need a definitive destination. If that's your career, you need to define your purpose and passion and what you'll be doing to pursue that. If it's your health, you need to define what healthy means to you and how you'll determine you've arrived at optimal health for yourself.

    • Stop complaining: You only complain about things that you have the control to change. If you don't have the control to change it you would just accept it for what it is and stop complaining. Making the changes you need to make in your situation (career, health, finances, relationships, etc) might take effort, money and time. It might be uncomfortable, difficult or confusing. So, to avoid risking any of those uncomfortable feelings and experiences, you stay put and complain about it. Complaining basically means you have a reference point of something better that you would prefer but that you are unwilling to take the risk of creating. Either accept that you are making the choice to stay where you are, take responsibility for your choice, and stop complaining, or take the risk of creating your life exactly the way you want it.

  • Do what you never do:I'm a firm believer in stepping out of your comfort box and doing what you've never done to see what you never see. If you wonder why you're not making progress to your destination, it might be time to find another path and means to get there because what you're currently doing may not be working. If it was working, you might have been there by now or a lot closer than you are. Different approach= different results.

Complaining basically means you have a reference point of something better that you would prefer but that you are unwilling to take the risk of creating. Either accept that you are making the choice to stay where you are….

  • The world doesn't owe you:  Remember that no-one owes you anything. You have to create it. If you feel there's no way, you have to create the way.

  • Glass half full: Expect your journey to have random potholes in the road and some things which you might consider detours. However you have to remember that those are all a part of your journey and you have to understand how to respond and not react negatively to things that may seem like a derailment of your journey. If you don't like the outcome of something, change your response. Sometimes life happens and you can't change a situation; however you can change your response and outlook on it and see how something that was meant to be bad can be used for good.

  • Results don't lie: Be honest with yourself; the best way to find out what is working and what isn’t is to pay attention to the results you are currently producing. You are either rich or you're not. You're either in shape or you're not. You either command respect or you don't. You're maintaining your ideal body weight or you're not. You're either happy or you're not.  You either have what you want or you don't. My dad always used the example "Pregnant or not, Cass? There's no in-between.” It's true. It's that simple. You either have what you want or you don't. Results don't lie! Be brutally honest with yourself, take responsibility and start making changes! I can't remember who, but someone once said, "Don't just sit there! Do something!"

Once you make up your mind you're going to be successful, you will be!
