Welcome to the August 'Editor's Pick' issue of ReConnect Africa magazine. As well as some new content and up to date news and events, our August issue brings you a chance to revisit articles and opinions selected by the Editor from recent issues of ReConnect Africa. In the aftermath of what has been a thrilling World Cup, John Battersby examines the legacy of Africa's first hosting of this global tournament in 'World Cup Legacy: Out of South Africa Something New'. The global sensation of the month has to be the vuvuzela and in 'Vuvuzela: Defining Symbol of the first African World Cup', John takes a look at how this quintessentially South African horn has become a global icon. Taking leadership from football to the boardroom, we look at how an executive leadership programme by GIBS Business School is aiming to impact on South African management skills in 'Leadership, Finance and the Challenge for Africa.' For my Editor's Pick of articles from past issues of ReConnect Africa, we bring you the chance to revisit articles such as Challenging Colonialism in Mauritius in which the Mauritian High Commissioner to the UK speaks candidly about British attempts to retain control of the Chagos Islands. In In the Business of Quality we look again at how business qualifications from ABE are making an impact on the lives of African professionals. Hazel and Kweku Aggrey-Orleans have created a unique range of scarves and in Designing Heritage, they speak about the key role their African heritage has played in their unique designs. Proving that talent shines through all circumstances, Ugandan author Goretti Kyomuhendo talks about the inspiration behind her writing in 'My Journey as a Writer'. In our section on Careers, Managing Africa with AMSCO, we examine how AMSCO is providing career opportunities for professionals in modern African businesses while, in Facing up to Redundancy, leading coach Richard Yates offers advice on how adopting the right attitude can help you deal with this challenge. Our Careers Coach tackles the subject of mentors and how they can help to spur your career in Why Do I Need a Mentor? Fancy a change in hair colour? Follow leading trichologist Noon Etienne's advice as she busts some of the myths surrounding this issue in '5 Myths about Colouring Afro Hair. Award nominated journalist Andrea Bohnstedt takes a swipe at the unintended consequences of the aid industry, asking why do-gooding rock stars are costing Africa more in business than their fundraising efforts are worth in 'Of Rock Stars and Underwear'. We bring you another chance to share the wisdom of one of Ghana's most eminent sons, Professor Alexander Kwapong, in my choice of 5 Minute Interviews. In 5 Minute Interview – Professor Alexander A Kwapong, the retired University Don and international development consultant looks at the real meaning of leadership.
