Welcome to the April issue of ReConnect Africa magazine. 2010 looks like being a good year for Africa and in African Businesses Optimistic about 2010, we look at a recent survey that highlights the positive view Africa's leading businesses have for this year. For us in the UK, March was all about the State visit of President Zuma and in State Visit: A Time to Reflect, John Battersby of the South African Marketing Council reflects on the long awaited and historic visit. As part of the State Visit, the UK-South Africa Business Forum provided a unique opportunity for businesses in the two countries to engage, as our report 'The State of Business' shows. What does it take to become one of Ghana's leading recruitment and Human Resource companies? In 'Taking the Lead with Ghana's Talent', Ellen Hagan talks about L'AINE Services' values and their vision for Ghana. In Retreating to Advance, we find out more about Crossroads Retreats and how it offers an opportunity to step out of the pressures and distractions of everyday living to explore issues in your working or personal life. Also in our Careers section, our Careers Coach tackles the question 'How do I stop my boss from taking advantage?' Achimota School has a long and illustrious history as well as an active Alumnus. In 'Achimota Calling!' and we speak to the Class of '83 about their forthcoming fundraising dinner to help rebuild the infrastructure of their alma mater. In Building Bridges, we report on the forthcoming June 2010 conference in the US which will explore how innovative partnerships driven by business schools can make a positive impact on emerging markets. Our guest interviewee in this month's '5 Minute Interview' is Actuary and Editor, Marjorie Ngwenya, who shares some of the lessons she has learned along the way. We go back into the ReConnect Africa Archives and give you another chance to read Oil - Ghana's Blessing or Africa's Curse? on the launch of a report that examines whether Ghana's oil discovery can propel the country to prosperity or become another example of the African 'oil curse'. April sees an extensive line-up of events in the UK and overseas and our Events listing gives you details of what's on this month and some unmissable Dates for your Diary.
